An amazing, unexpected Christmas present for everyone!

2 Player Productions decided to share for free their documentary “Minecraft: the story of Mojang” through the Pirate Bay! Seems too good to be true, but both, the news and the downloadable file are authentic. If you were looking for something special to watch with friends and family during this festivities, there you go, from 2 Player Productions with love! :-)

If you want to support the 2PP guys (they actually deserve it, I mean, they gave away for free a movie that needed two years of their lives to be completed!) THIS IS the official page where you can buy the documentary. At the moment the site is down because of the intense traffic but keep on trying, they’re working to fix the problem :-)

This is the message that 2 Player Productions wrote in the Pirate Bay’s comment section:

“Greetings Pirate Bay! This is 2 Player Productions here, and we hoped we could be the first to upload our new movie “Minecraft: The Story of Mojang”. We’ve never uploaded a torrent before so hopefully this isn’t all screwed up. We wanted to come here first because we knew the movie would end up here eventually, and the best thing to do seemed to be opening a dialogue. Torrents and piracy are a way of life and it probably won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. There are many people that want to punish you for that, but we have a more realistic outlook on things. We’ve been there. We’ve all needed to do it at some point. Maybe you don’t have the money. Maybe you want to try before you buy. Maybe you’re pissed at us for premiering the movie on Xbox Live. These are all fine reasons. But if you feel that piracy is, in Gabe Newell’s words, “a service problem,” please consider that we are selling DRM free digital downloads that you can watch in whatever manner you please. We’re just three guys trying to make a living doing what we love. We love the world of video games, and we love making it real. If you buy the movie, you support those efforts. The highly anticipated documentary by 2 Player Productions “Minecraft: the story of Mojang” is finally finished! \o/

A special premiere screening (only for Xbox Live Gold members) will be held the 22nd of December 2012 at 5pm PST / 8pm EST in the US and at 7pm GMT / 8pm CET in Europe.

The DVD will be on sale pretty soon (first 7000 copies with a limited edition packaging) and you can sign up to the official mailing list to be notified.

To celebrate The Hobbit release, wonderful artist BlockFortress created an impressive Smaug floating in the skies over Hobbiton in the Minecraft Middle-Earth server.

By the way, if you haven’t see Minecraft Middle-Earth yet, well… you SHOULD, it’s amazing! Jesse Cox did a long showcase of the server, see here the first part and here the second part.

When I see mod like this I understand how awesome some developers/artists are. Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders mod is amazing. It’s an evolution of Daxnitro’s famous GLSL Shaders that has be abandoned from some time now; Sonic Ether decided to pick up the baton and the result is incredible.

Please note: the mod is extra-heavy and requires a powerful computer to run properly. Read carefully the mod’s forum page before even think to install it.
